More likely than not, you have experienced spam calls or messages at some point in your life. Whether these spam messages were trying to inform you about your car's extended warranty or prompt you to click on a sketchy link, one thing is true of all spam; no one likes receiving it.
This article will show you how to filter out the spam messages that you might receive in your email from the contact form on your Showit website.
Note: There is no way to block contact form messages from within your Showit account.
Set Up Email Filters
To prevent spam messages from your Showit built-in contact form from going to your email, you can set up email filters or rules directly in your email provider. To find out how to set up these email filters, you can Google search "How to filter incoming emails in *insert your email provider*"
Below are instructions for a few common email providers:
⚠️ Do not filter/block emails from noreply@showit.co, as this will prevent ALL message from your contact forms from going to your inbox, not just spam messages.
Contact Form Subject
If you are receiving spam messages to your email inbox from your contact form, consider filtering your incoming emails by subject. Most email providers will give you the option to create subject filters to prevent messages with certain subject lines from reaching your inbox.
When filtering by subject there are a few things that you should know. Showit contact form messages will always have the same subject format.
To set which input field of your contact form that you would like to be included in the subject line, first select that field in the Design App. Then, under the Text Properties tab in the right side properties panel, toggle the In Subject option.
This will make sure that whatever is typed into this field of the contact form by visitors to your website is included in the subject line of the email.
Filter by Keywords
One way to filter out spam emails is to set email filters within your email provider that will keep messages with spammy keywords out of your inbox. This could include explicit language, spammy language, or even an specific name or email address that was submit through the contact form.
Note: Filtering by a keyword will make sure that all messages containing this keyword will not go into your inbox, so be careful not to filter out any common keywords that might be in other emails.
