Troubleshooting privacy/not secure errors

Upon launching your site, you may see a Not Secure message in the top left corner of your browser, or a full screen privacy error. This is indicative of an issue with the current SSL certificate on your account. Either it hasn’t been set up yet, or the current certificate will need to be updated.

Note: If you have requested a blog setup, you will not be able to set any DNS records or have an SSL set for your site until you have been contacted by the blog team with confirmation that your blog has been successfully set up.

How to Fix This

Your SSL will be set differently depending on what subscription you have with Showit.

Set SSL for Non-Blog Subscription

If you’re seeing a Not Secure message to the left of your URL and you have a Showit Subscription without a blog, you can set your SSL within your Showit Account.

To do so, simply navigate to your Showit Account and then click on the Domains option in the top right corner.

On your Domains screen, click on the button that says Check Site.

This Check Site button will run a new check to see if your DNS records have been set correctly, and if they have, it will automatically apply your SSL to your site!

Set SSL For Basic or Advanced Blog Subscription

If you have a Basic or Advanced Blog Showit Subscription, and you've successfully set your DNS records within your domain registrar, your SSL should set automatically once your DNS records have had time to propagate.

If your SSL has not set itself within 48 hours, reach out to our support team by clicking on the icon in the bottom right corner of the help center or the Design App and let us know you’d like to have your SSL certificate set up.

Why Your Site Isn't Secure

If you are getting a full screen privacy error, there are a couple of things that could be wrong:

  • A common cause is incorrect DNS records. You can double check the DNS in your domain registrar to be sure they match what you are seeing in your Showit Account.

  • Another issue could be the initial setup of the SSL. If your DNS records are correct and it still isn’t working, reach out via that chat bubble icon in the bottom right corner and let us know your SSL needs to be set.

Please keep in mind that if you have a blog, the SSL setup may take a couple of hours following the confirmation that your DNS records are correct. If you do not have a blog, the SSL setup is typically done within a couple of minutes.
