Learn how to create a canvas that auto-populates blog posts based on a specific category or tag, like featured.

Setup a Featured Posts Section

  1. Create a canvas with your featured post layout containing the placeholders you want shown for the post: Featured Image, Post Title, Post Top Category, etc.

  2. Add a canvas view and move the placeholder layers into the view folder.  If you are creating a side-by-side layout, divide each post into it's own canvas view.

  3. Change the canvas type to Wordpress: Posts View Lookup

  4. Define the Tag Name Slug: (typically "featured") and the Number of Posts to show. If you choose to add a tag name slug, be sure to create that tag in Wordpress and add the tag to the posts you want to load in the featured posts section.

**If you define more posts than your layout supports, be sure to activate for Canvas Views to Auto Advance.

  5. If you want to populate the most recent posts in the canvas, leave the Category and Tag slug fields blank.

Note: When displaying Featured Posts that will be selected by the user, we suggest you configure the Posts View Lookup to load posts based upon a 'featured' Tag, not a Category. That way a post can remain in a broader category like Weddings or Baking for optimal SEO purposes, while also being Tagged to be "featured" in your layout.

How to configure browsing arrows

If you want to allow users to cycle through additional sets of posts, be sure to set the number of posts larger than the number in your layout (ie. Layout is 3 posts, set Number of Posts to 9). Then be sure to set for the canvas to either Auto-Advance under the Canvas > View Transitions settings. Or setup arrows on the canvas and link them to Canvas > This Canvas > Next/Previous to allow click through of the posts.
