What is a Domain?

A domain name is the web address people type in to access a website, such as,, or

Just like a street address helps other people find your house, your domain name is unique to you and points your visitors to your website.

Let’s say you want to invite a friend to your house. To keep them from wandering all over your city looking for you, you’ll give them your home address to share exactly where you’re located.

In the same way, when your friend types your domain into a web browser, like Chrome or Safari, they are taken straight to where your website lives.

How Do I Get a Domain?

You can purchase your own domain name from a domain registrar, such as Squarespace, GoDaddy or Hover. Just follow the registrar’s instructions for creating an account and choosing the name for your domain. The cost of a domain name typically ranges from $10-$20 per year.

Here’s a Pro Tip - Make sure to keep your login information in a safe place, as you’ll need it to connect your domain to your Showit website.

How does my domain connect with my Showit website?

Once you’ve purchased your domain name, it needs to be pointed to your Showit website. This is where it gets a little nerdy, but the Showit Support team can help get that all setup for you.

To request for your domain to be setup, all you have to do is click “CONNECT YOUR DOMAIN”, in the top-left corner of the Showit app to initiate that process.

You can request your domain setup right away or wait until you’ve completed designing your website in Showit.

As soon as your Showit subscription is started and your domain is setup, you’ll be able to make your website go live whenever you want!
