Action required for ALL Social Grid users

Meta (the parent company of Facebook and Instagram) has announced the deprecation of the Instagram Basic Display API, which will officially end on December 4, 2024. This API is currently used by many websites and services to display Instagram feeds including Showit’s Social Grid feature. After this date, it will no longer be functional, and the only way to populate instagram content in your site will be with a Creator or Business account on instagram.

The Basic Display API allowed access to media from both personal and professional Instagram accounts. However, with the transition, only Instagram business or creator accounts will be supported. Users still relying on personal accounts must convert them to business or creator accounts to ensure continued use of this feature. This will also require a reconnection of the account to our Social Grid feature and we will announce when Showit user’s should take that action.

While this change may be inconvenient for those still using personal Instagram accounts, the Instagram Graph API offers better performance, additional features, and future-proofing for website integrations.

What this means for you:

If you wish to continue using Showit’s Social Grid or any Instagram widget on your website it will require converting your account (if it is a personal account) to a business or creator account.

Next Steps:

- Convert your account to creator or business
- Go to the Showit Account and re-authorize the social grid app
- Verify in the Showit Design App that your IG images are still populating

Here is a help video to walk you through this process. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to Showit Support for assistance.

Already Have a Creator/Business Account?

You will still need to re-authorize the social grid.

To do so you can follow the instructions in the latter half of the video we sent or simply head to your Showit account app and disconnect and reconnect the social grid widget which will ensure you are setup using the new API and that there are no service disruptions come 12/04/24 when IG disables the old API.
